Multirenovation system

Multirenovation – the internal insulation and renovation board
Multirenovation is a system made up of components individually matched to one another for internal insulation and repairing damage caused by mold. The Multirenovation system comprises the board, insulation wedges, profiles, filler and an Klimadeck allowing vapor diffusion.

Being a lightweight, low-density calcium silicate board it improves the thermal insulation figures, optimally regulating internal condensation and the indoor climate. Its special properties make it possible to provide stylish or listed buildings with internal insulation which is ideal structurally, renovate wet walls caused by condensation and dry out buildings rapidly as a secondary measure to counteract rising damp. Multirenovation is also used for lining internal walls and for restoring living space after damage due to fire, water or mold.

  • Repairing damage due to moisture
  • Preventing the development of new mold
  • Reducing heating costs
  • Suitable for virtually all designs of wall

Benefits at a glance

  • Protection and preservation of the value of existing building fabric
  • Reduction of heating costs
  • Improvement of indoor climate

Wherever it is not possible to provide buildings with external wall insulation for aesthetic or monument preservation reasons, Multirenovation provides structurally efficient internal insulation for improving thermal properties. Since there are different thicknesses of board, it is possible to achieve various improvements in the U-value (heat transfer coefficient, which used to be called the k-value), thus reducing heating costs. Here is an example: the heat loss of a brick wall 24 cm thick is reduced by approx. 50% merely by installing Multirenovation internal insulation with a thickness of only 2.5 cm. Owing to substantial vapor diffusion the indoor climate becomes much more balanced, without any offensive smell.

  • Repairing damage due to moisture
  • Preventing the development of new mold

Multirenovation is made of cellulose-reinforced calcium silicate and is extremely light, absorbing condensation from the surface like blotting paper and passing it on to the indoor air over large areas. Since the surface remains dry permanently, mold spores are unable to settle whilst wallpaper and paint are prevented from peeling off. A pH of 7 - 10 (alkaline) prevents the development of an environment conducive to mold growth (pH 4.5 - 6 – acid to neutral).

  • Design of structurally ideal system solutions
  • Natural material which is not hazardous to health

The increase in surface temperature prevents the formation of condensation on the internal surface of the wall. It has been certified that in the production of Multirenovation no mineral fibers or other additives are used, such as formaldehyde or CFCs. Multirenovation system boards provide no breeding ground for mold, remain free of insects and vermin, and do not release any toxic gases in the event of fire.

  • Cost advantage due to space-saving solution and easy handling

Since the lightweight board is easy to install, Multirenovation provides a crucial cost advantage without the need for any additional face formwork or extra structural load that has to be taken into account.

Sphere of Application – Interior Insulation without Moisture Problems
Whenever exterior insulation is impracticable for aesthetic reasons or in the interest of preservation of historical monuments, Multirenovation® provides for improved thermal protection as interior insulation. Expert consulting should be obtained from redstone GmbH before carrying out an interior insulation project.

Sphere of Application – Repairing Damage Due to Mildew, Fire or Water
Multirenovation® is suitable for permanent elimination of condensation water on the inside of exterior walls and concomitant phenomena such as offensive odors, disintegration of indoor plaster, peeling of wallpaper and coatings as well as mildew formation and the health problems that this often entails.
Multirenovation® is highly effective when condensation forms on walls due to insufficient or inappropriately installed exterior insulation or soil dampness leads to soaking of the wall. An expert should, in any case, determine the cause of the soaking. Lasting structural damage, e.g., defective horizontal seals or leaky facades must always be repaired.

strong>Processing Multirenovation

  • Mark dimensions
  • Saw using handsaw or handheld circular saw
  • If necessary, rework cut edges with a rasp or file
  • Mix MC adhesive, ratio 4 : 1
  • Apply MC adhesive with toothed spatula
  • Set Multirenovation® panel in place starting from the bottom and orient using spirit level
  • Coat edges of panel with MC adhesive
  • Set the next Multirenovation® panel
  • Do not allow cross-shaped gaps to form
  • Remove excess MC adhesive
  • Tools can be cleaned with plain water immediately after use

Surface Treatment
The surface can be redecorated already just 24 hours after installation of the Multirenovation® panels. Because the functional principle of Multirenovation® is based on the capillary effect, diffusion, and evaporation, any surface decoration must not interfere with these properties. In any case, wallpaper, paint, or plaster must permit diffusion.

Surfaces
As a rule, the instructions in the technical leaflets must be observed!

Filling
Multirenovation® filler is used for fast, high-quality surface finishing of Multirenovation® panels. When used correctly, the product results in a very smooth and firm surface. Multirenovation® filler permits diffusion and has a high pH-value. Before finishing Multirenovation® panels with filler, always make certain to prime the panels with Multirenovation® wallpaper primer. Otherwise there is a risk that the filler could dry too quickly due to the high absorbency of the Multirenovation® panels, which could prevent the filler from crystallizing and adhering properly.

Wallpapering
Light paper or fiberglass wall coverings are suitable for Multirenovation® panels. Suitable paints that can be recommended are plastic-free lime paints or silicate paints that permit diffusion – e.g., Multirenovation® Klima-Deck. Woodchip paper is only conditionally suitable for use on Multirenovation® panels (moisture risk due to wood constituents). Plastic or foil wall coverings (that do not permit diffusion) are not recommendable for use on Multirenovation® panels. Before hanging wallpaper, the Multirenovation® panels should be primed with Multirenovation® wallpaper primer to ensure optimum adhesion. Depending on surface properties, it may be necessary to finish the panels with Multirenovation® filler beforehand.

Painting
Before painting, the Multirenovation® panel must again be primed with Multirenovation® wallpaper primer. We recommend using plastic-free lime and silicate paints that permit diffusion – such as Multirenovation® Klima-Deck, for example. Latex paints should be ruled out, since they form a closed film at the latest when a second coat is applied. As a rule, it is necessary to finish the entire surface area beforehand using Multirenovation® filler.

WOS Coating
It is possible to solve even the most difficult cases using WOS anticondensation coating by redstone ®. In this case, we recommend priming the surface with WOS primer instead of wallpaper primer. Generally, it is unnecessary to finish the entire surface area with filler.

Plastering
It is possible to apply acrylate-free mineral spray plaster or thin plaster that permits diffusion according to the manufacturer’s instructions. We recommend a thin layer of silicate plaster (max. 3 mm) with system primer.

Tiles
When tile is applied to Multirenovation® panels, they should always be doweled. Tiling has a negative effect on the functionality of the Multirenovation® panels, thus the tiled wall area should not exceed a maximum of 2/3 of the total area. The Multirenovation® panels should be primed with Multirenovation® wallpaper primer before application of the tiles. Tiles must be laid according to the rules of good tiling practice. In areas exposed to splashed water, an alternative minimal seal is absolutely necessary between the Multirenovation® panel and the tiling.

Wall-preparation
Remove old wallpaper or paint coats. Remove all existing mildew spores. Knock off loose plasterwork, alternatively, knock off all interior plasterwork. Scrape out mortar joints. Patch cracks in the plaster with dispersion filler. Repair flaws in the plasterwork, if the plasterwork is to remain. There must be a flat, even surface to ensure that the Multirenovation® panel makes contact with the wall all along its surface. Only then can the Multirenovation® interior insulation and renovation panel fulfill its function flawlessly.
